I was away relaxing by the water this past weekend but poor cell reception didn’t top me from hearing that Curiosity had a successful landing. Just amazing. From seven minutes of terror to the first few photos, all crazy awesome stuff.
What was even more extraordinary to me was this photo:
This image shows the Curiosity rover and its parachute photographed from the Reconnaissance Orbiter as Curiosity descended to the surface on Aug. 5 PDT.
Think about that. A photo of the Curiosity landing taken by another satellite that we sent there. That just blows my mind. Not only did we successfully make the seven minute landing, we were able to photograph it! Insane.
